Robert Kyr: All-Night Vigil

Announcing Robert Kyr: All-Night Vigil

Cappella Records is pleased to announce the November 11, 2022 release of the ALL-NIGHT VIGIL by award-winning American composer ROBERT KYR. Performed by Cappella Romana and directed by its founder and music director Alexander Lingas, this is Cappella Romana’s 29th recording release.

Robert Kyr’s All-Night Vigil takes its formal inspiration from Sergei Rachmaninoff, who in 1915 set the same 15 selections from the Orthodox vigil for the Resurrection. Here Robert Kyr employs an English translation of those selections by the late Archimandrite Ephrem (Lash), to whom this Vigil is dedicated.

Kyr blends Byzantine and Slavic musical traditions with a distinctly personal idiom, granting a fresh approach for those familiar with these texts, and a deeply moving point of entry for those encountering them for the first time.

All-Night Vigil is the third of four 2022-23 releases on Cappella Records produced by multi- GRAMMY® Award winner Blanton Alspaugh and the engineering team at Soundmirror. Soundmirror’s outstanding orchestral, solo, opera, and chamber recordings have earned more than 100 GRAMMY® nominations and awards, with releases on every major classical label.

All-Night Vigil is released on a Hybrid SACD in 2.0 stereo and 5.0 surround sound (DSM192K/24bit), recorded in DSD and Dolby® Atmos Spatial Audio and downloadable to audio servers and devices.

The accompanying booklet provides two extensive essays on the work–one by the composer and one by the music director. Full texts are presented along with complete biographies of all the singers with beautiful photography.

Cappella Romana launches this world premiere recording with the world premiere performances in Seattle and Portland, November 11-13, 2022.
